‘Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.’
Hebrews 12 : 1 - 3
The fight of faith is not meant for the faint-hearted, hence, we are meant to exercise discipline. The world is full of the pleasures the flesh longs for and this is on purpose. understand this, we are meant to move and grow in life, but the devil has put in hard work to get the flesh comfortable in order to halt progress. Why would you want to go up when you have the false reality of satisfaction in your present state right? Or you might be at the other end where you have never felt the warm arms of comfort. You have lived a life of suffering and endless toils, pain is all too familiar to you and you have never had more than what is needed to crawl you into the next day. You may be even doubting if God exists.
Well, Paul ushers us to ‘run with perseverance’. Yes. We must do just that. …..If we ‘walk’ with perseverance, we will fall off. The devil is putting in so much work that walking is not enough. We must ‘run’ with it. Whether your run begins from the painful end or the comfortable one, run the race tailored to you.
Fix your eyes on Jesus and your condition won’t affect the race you run. Before Paul begun his ministry, the Lord removed his physical eyes so his spiritual eyes can guide him on his mission and ministry on Earth. We are to likewise fix our eyes – or hearts – on Jesus so we walk by faith not by our sight.
If ever you need inspiration or motivation, look at the life of Jesus Christ. Our Messiah who was 100% man and 100% God. He was able to heal the sick, conduct miracles and cast out demons because of the God side of him but this was only possible because of the human aspect of him. We inhabit a spirit that lives in the flesh. Though the flesh may die, the spirit never dies. Our spirit exists even after the flesh is gone.
Jesus came as the way (to show the son of man how to live in order for the God of man to move in us, hence he became the son of God and the son of man. The mediator for us in heaven), the truth (our freedom lies in the truth, because John 8:32 tells us that the truth will ‘set us free’), and life(only through him we have eternal life). Jesus went through temptation, suffering, unfairness and injustice yet remained strong in faith because of the spirit of a God at work in Him. And through this we learn that in our weaknesses, His strength is made perfect.
Take heart and run the race of your life, if you fall get back up and continue. He is a forgiving God who loves us and wants to see us succeed.
