In Psalm 109, we read the account of a prayer David rendered to God.
One, which can be seen as quite powerful.
I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of that prayer, and neither would you.
It would be a false reality if we lived in a world where people didn’t harbour hate for one another.
Truth of the matter is, there is always that something that someone does which gets on the wrong side of you, which we associate with the word ‘hate’.
Hate is a word described as ‘intense dislike’, and so often affiliated with our feelings.
It is something I feel and definitely something you feel too.
But as a Christian we are instructed to deal in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14 instructs us to ‘Do everything in love.’
– Walk in love
– Talk in love
– Act in love
– Think in love
Love is seen as a key attribute of God.
God is love ( 1 John 4:8)
Many scholars argue, Christians are called to love selflessly and ceaselessly. You’ll be classified as un-Christ-like if you didn’t embrace love as such.
Unfortunately for believers, we live in a world filled with people who hate us. People will simply hate you for your love for Christ.
People will even hate you for choosing love over all.
From family to foes. Old to young.
The reality of the matter is people will hate you.
From that hate people will speak falsely and wrongly about you. They will spread rumours that are simply not true. All in the name of intense dislike or hate. They may even judge falsely the little things you do, show or say.
What is the believers response to this?
I say adopt a David-like mentality.
‘ I am a man of prayer’
‘I am a woman of prayer’
That should be your go-to response.

The late Dr Myles Munroe once said,
‘Prayer is earthly licence for heavenly interference.’
Ask the heavens to interfere on your behalf.
Hate occurs when the heart is contaminated and the only solution to a contaminated heart is to go to the God that knows and created the heart.
The bible says that life and death is in the tongue. People may choose to only speak death into your life but be a person of Prayer. A person that fights death with life.
Ask God to fight against anyone or anything that is fighting against you. Whether it be verbally, spiritually or physically and He will abide by His word (Psalm 35)
Be cautious of this: When we pray for God to fight for us. He knows beyond what we know. Therefore refrain from telling God how to fight.
Note to reader: It is human to feel hurt, broken, sad by the hate and negativity which is spoken about you, but choose to be a person of prayer. Don’t fight the hate physically. Fight it spiritually in prayer.
